Eugene Maré from IQ Insurance shares tips on wills and estates at October Seniors’ Breakfast

AT the October Seniors’ Breakfast, held at Golden Falls Spur, Columbine Square, Suideroord, guest speaker Eugene Maré from IQ Insurance and Advisors spoke to the seniors about wills and estates.

“Many people forget to update their will and this is very important as things change from time to time. If your will is with the bank, you need to keep a copy of it, and the quicker an estate is wound up the cheaper the costs will be,” Maré said.

“Ensure you’ve nominated a beneficiary for insurance policies and if there are maintenance obligations an attorney will have to be appointed.

“In a file, add your original signed will, title deeds to your property, ID, passports of yourself and your spouse, life policy, retirement policy, marriage certificate, car licences, TV licences, medical aid number, share certificates and if you rent your property, the rental contract. All of these documents kept together will make it so much easier to sort out,” added Maré.

The talk was well received with the seniors enjoying breakfast afterwards. Michelle Pelser (co-ordinator of the Seniors’ Breakfast) thanked Eugene for coming along to inform the members about how important it is to have an up to date will.
