MASON, Ohio (WKRC) – Members of a Mason family learned their punishment for an insurance scam they used to live a life of luxury.
The father, Mitch Stevenson, will spend three-and-a-half years in federal prison on money laundering charges. His wife Patricia and their daughter Candace will spend two years on probation.
Agents say the Stevensons took out life insurance policies on a family member, claiming that person was healthy, weighed 170 pounds and had a good job. In fact, that person was sick, weighed 400 pounds and was unemployed.
When the person died, the Stevensons collected $2.9 million from life insurance policies and used the money to buy things like a mansion and a Bentley convertible.
